Holy Spirit
Salvation is a free gift from God resulting from your trust that Christ Jesus’s sacrifice on the cross was sufficient payment for your sin (Romans 6:23, 1 John 1:9). Once you accept that free gift, you are born again—a spiritual birth, which makes you a child of God (John 3:1–15). During this spiritual birth, you receive the Holy Spirit as the seal of your salvation (Ephesians 1:13). God gives you Himself because the Holy Spirit is God which means the saved person has almighty God living inside them.
The Holy Spirit gives the believer a hunger and desire for the Word, which is Truth. He is the comforter, giving the believer endurance and encouragement in a troubled world. When the believer walks in step with the Holy Spirit, you are given power to overcome sin and selfish desire (Galatians 5:16). This allows the Spirit to work love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control into the believers life (Galatians 5:22–23). Without the Holy Spirit’s influence, a person will instead exhibit the works of the flesh which includes things like immorality, strife, jealousy, anger, envy, and division (Galatians 5:19–21).
It is through the Holy Spirit that believers can unit in one mission for God, which is to make disciples (Matthew 28:16–20). The Holy Spirit wants to partner with the believer in God’s work and will. As He begins working in your life, He prompts you and helps you to carry out God’s purposes (John 14:16–17, 15:26–27). The Spirit leads you into a church body where He can use you to minister to each person in that body (1 Corinthians 12:18). If you only observe church, as if it is an event to spectate, instead of participating in worship and service, then you deprive the Holy Spirit from using you to your fullest capacity in that body. The Holy Spirt has an assignment for you as part of the church body, and He will equip you for it if you allow Him to do so.
